The history behind the teddy bear story is every much a rags to riches story in America, like the gold rush, oil fields, automobiles, big box merchants, sports figures and movie stars. Creative men and women designed an enduring, much adored toy that promoted love, safety, comfort, security and friendship to millions of children around the world for centuries. These descriptions meant success for the pioneering toy maker and many benefited monetarily because if it. Its true, these old bears won’t be rough played with anymore but to me that makes them all the more worthy of being gently owned, loved, cherished and displayed, not thrown aside because it’s grown too old, ratty, stained, dirty, hole filled and broken. This is what inspires me to restore them, I have enthusiasm for those creators who came before me, promoting security, comfort, reassurance, friendship, safety and love through what they created for children, not malice, fear or harm.
